High temperature pipeline inspection

In the pipeline inspection industry, we generally consider any pipeline transporting a medium with a temperature above 80 °C (176 °F) to be high temp and hence, not possible with conventional ILI tools available in the market. Therefore, a common practice is to inspect these lines during shutdown.

Deep water and marginal oil and gas fields are often found to be at high pressure or high temperature. Corrosion is one of the biggest issues for offshore pipeline engineering.

3P has successfully developed ILI tools for deployment in a high temperature pipeline

Key Advantages

  • They can be applied up to 125 °C (257 °F). They are known as Smart Thermal Control (STC) tools

  • These high temp tools have successfully completed inspection projects in live pipelines/without shutdown etc. in many parts of the world

  • Challenges addressed by 3P high temp tools: using proper polyurethane material capable of not only withstanding such high temperature but also keeping a good sealing and driving properties and carrying the tool throughout the line. Also, the magnets on the tool need to perform in such high temperature, cables, sensors electronics and all-important components of the tool.
